Hockwold cum Wilton cruiserweight Tommy Fletcher on improving to 4-0 as a professional after points victory at Wembley

Tommy Fletcher feels he has good momentum behind him after improving to 4-0 as a professional with a points victory at the OVO Arena Wembley.

The Hockwold cum Wilton fighter recently returned to the ring for his first bout of 2023, stepping up to six rounds to beat Darryl Sharp 60-54 on points.

The cruiserweight bout was high up on the undercard of the BT Sport-televised Artur Beterbiev v Anthony Yarde event, and served as more valuable experience for the 21-year-old and his development within the pro ranks.

“I think it was a great experience for me to go six rounds and get valuable rounds in,” the former Attleborough Boxing Club member said.

“I think my opponent was the perfect opponent to get me some rounds in.

“My first three fights I was just knocking them out, but he’s a good, durable man.

“He’s been a southern area or southern county champion before, but he wasn’t really a dangerous opponent for me.

“There’s levels to this game and I boxed his head off. I didn’t knock him out, but there’s no pressure.

“At the end of the day, a win’s a win and it was on a great card.

“I was on two from last. It was absolutely crazy in there when I walked out to thousands of people. It was crazy.”

Fletcher, who only made his professional debut in July last year, now has four bouts under his belt in the last six months, and believes he has adjusted to the bright lights and the bigger stage that comes with being a part of huge televised cards.

"I've got good momentum going now and I think that's something I didn't really have in the amateurs," he said.

"In the amateurs I'd do the championships and four or five fights, five days in a row, and then the whole year after that I'd be training and perfecting my craft.

"That's all well and good, but no one really wanted to fight me in the amateurs. I was too strong for them and I was too much of a big puncher.

"Now I'm in the pros, it's a lot different. I've had four fights in not a long amount of time.

"I'm in there and I feel more relaxed. In my earlier fights I'd get in there and have tunnel vision and it would be a big occasion, but now I can handle the fans and I enjoy it.

"I think I rise to the occasion. Seeing people there watching proper gets me going and gets me buzzed up for it now. I'm relaxed when I get in there."
