Harleston Magpies’ Annual May Day Weekend Hockey Festival saw forty teams from across the region competing in this end of season fun event when the hockey was played in a less competitive spirit than usual.

In the Mixed Day on Saturday several teams took the opportunity to join in the fun by playing in fancy dress.

Monday was devoted to Ladies’ and Men’s lower XI teams and as on the Saturday the weather was kinder than forecast.

The Harleston teams dominated the Mixed Day with Tye Dye Pies beating Magpies ‘Over the Hill’ in the final of the Cup event on penalty strokes with Thomas Ridley judged ‘Player of the Final’ while St Ives beat BTEC United in the final of the Plate event.

On Monday it was the turn of Norwich City HC to dominate winning both the Ladies’ and Men’s Cup events. Their ladies’ team, playing as City City Bang Bang, beat Christchurch of Ipswich 2-0 in the final with Ellie Brine voted ‘Player of the Final’ while Loddon beat Magpies ‘Goals Will Come’ in the Plate final. In the Men’s Cup final Norwich City beat Ely 2-0 with George Brine completing a family double as the outstanding player. The Plate event was won by Thetford who beat Sudbury 1-0.
