It proved a short stay in this year’s FA Cup competition for Diss Town and Debenham LC as both were eliminated in the extra preliminary round over the weekend.

Ross Potter’s Tangerines slipped to a 1-0 defeat away at higher-league Wisbech Town, while the Hornets lost by the same scoreline, going down to Ipswich Wanderers ending the pair’s journey in the competition for another season.

In the cricket, Diss CC went some way to easing their relegation fears and ensuring their Norfolk Allinace Premier Division status after securing a welcome win over Downham Town.

Having only won one of their previous six matches, Diss scored 207 before bowling out Downham for just 93 to seal a 114-run win.

There was also joy for league rivals Old Buckenham (200-7) who made it three wins on the spin with a three wicket success over Stow (137).

In the Sky Bet Championship, Ipswich Town came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1, while in the Barclays Premier League Norwich City were 3-1 winners at Sunderland.
