Diss urged to build on momentum
Diss Rugby Club head coach Roger Coombs has challenged his table-topping side to build on their current momentum ahead of a mouth-watering derby -day encounter with Norwich tomorrow (3pm).
A narrow 20-17 victory away at then second-placed Sudbury maintained Diss’ perfect start to the new campaign with a sixth successive win and strengthened their position at the top of London Two North East, where they sit three points ahead of Norwich.
And ahead of another mammoth encounter, Coombs has challenged his charges to repeat their heroics from last weekend and clinch what could prove another vital victory.
“It was great for us to win away from home again,” said Coombs following Saturday’s success over Sudbury.
“They came at us in the second-half and put us under some real pressure but we held firm.
“That made it six out of six and things are looking really good ahead of another massive game with Norwich.
“Facing Norwich is not only a big game because of our league positions but because it is a local derby.
“League form goes out of the window in a derby but luckily we are at home, which gives us an advantage.
“Winning breeds happiness among the squad and that makes things a lot easier for me.
“Momentum is really important for us and we need to keep building on this run.
“Beating Sudbury put a real marker down and hopefully we can just keep that going.”
