Diss Rugby Club Under-14s get a Premiership experience with Leicester Tigers
Diss Rugby Club Under-14s enjoyed a ‘fantastic experience’ during a training day with Leicester Tigers – and coach Mark Worley believes it can only be a good thing for his team, writes Oscar Johnson.
The youth side were contacted by the 10-time Premiership champions as part of a programme that provides free training days to local clubs.
On Saturday, April 6, Worley and his team travelled to Leicester, accompanied by some coaching staff and parents.
The day included training at a local feeder club’s ground, before a Q&A with former Bury St Edmunds player Tom Smith.
“He was very informative, he spoke about playing locally,” Worley said.
The team were also able to watch the Tigers in their league fixture against Exeter Chiefs and Worley felt the experience was a positive one, praising The Tigers.
“The experience was fantastic, and the rugby we saw was good,” he said.
He was also impressed with the training offered to his players.
“The coaching was encouraging for the boys, the training was very good and I even think it helped us understand a bit more from a coaching point of view.
“It gave us ideas for a few new drills and also reassured us about some of the stuff we work on.
“The coaches even gave some of the boys some personal feedback, so that helped them a lot. We are trying to take some of the things into the end of the season, hopefully it can help us,” Worley said.
Whilst the regular league season has now finished, Diss Under-14s have two tournaments remaining, with the first being in East Norfolk at the end of this month.
Diss Under-14s are currently looking for players to join them for next season, where they will be playing at Under-15s level. If interested in joining the team, please contact Peter Allott on 07800 690440.
