Diss Town in control of Thurlow Nunn League First Division North play-off destiny ahead of games against Wivenhoe Town and Haverhill Rovers

Having been held to three draws in their previous four outings, Diss Town boss Garth Good is hoping that his team have returned to winning ways at just the right time.

The Tangerines kept their Thurlow Nunn League First Division North play-off hopes burning brightly last weekend thanks to a 2-0 victory over Framlingham Town.

It means that Good’s men remain in control of their own destiny, with wins in their season-ending clashes at home against Wivenhoe Town tomorrow and away at champions Haverhill Rovers on Monday (both 3pm) ensuring that Diss will have a shot at ending their 10-year exile from Step 5 football.

“If someone had offered me this situation at the start of the season I’d have snapped their hand off,” said the Diss boss.

“I don’t think anyone would have predicted that we’d be in this position, but that’s a credit to the way the boys have conducted themselves.

“Obviously it’s not going to be easy. Wivenhoe are scrapping and it doesn’t get any more difficult than playing against Haverhill away.

“What we can’t do is get too far ahead of ourselves. Anyone can beat anyone in this league so we’ve got to be fully focused on Wivenhoe before we think about Haverhill.”

What the win over Framlingham has given Diss is some belief.

A defeat would have seen the 1994 FA Vase winners drop out of the top five, but they now have some momentum ahead of the crucial Easter double header.

Good added: “I was delighted with the result and the performance. We all know how good of a side Framlingham are – they’re one of the best in the division.

“Our recent form hadn’t been great and we knew how massive of a game it was, but the boys dealt with it really well.

“We couldn’t afford anything but a win in all honesty – every single player was excellent.”

Diss will have to make do without the services of Charlie Webb, Kehan Whitby and Alfie Sandon this weekend, while late checks will be made on the fitness of James Blyth and Andrew Topping.
