Diss recapture Downes
Diss Town’s hopes of making an instant return to the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division have been boosted by the re-singing of targetman Kyle Downes.
The powerful forward impressed during a four-month spell at Brewers Green Lane from November, before returning to Ryman League outfit Dereham Town for the end of the campaign.
But Tangerines boss Mark Reeve has managed to convince Downes, who scored three times in 13 appearances, to commit to dropping down the leagues to help fire Diss back up following relegation to the First Division.
“Kyle was a big reason why we started to have a good run of results last season and unfortunately we lost him to Dereham towards the end,” said Reeve, who welcomed the players back for their first pre-season training session on Tuesday.
“I explained to him where the club is and where we are going and he was keen to buy into that and it was good to get him to commit.”
Experienced defender Ben Lewis has also signed a contract, but last season’s top scorer Matt Dixon, with 13 goals, is unlikely to return.
“I am not sure he knows what he is doing next season, whether he is playing on or taking time out,” said Reeve, who was looking to start signing more players on at training last night and tomorrow.
Diss have announced their first friendly will be a week on Thursday (July 9) when they play Fakenham Town at Easton College (8pm).
