Diss’ re-arranged fixture at Wisbech postponed

Diss’ upcoming match this Saturday away at Wisbech has been postponed.

The hosts have told Diss they do not feel ready to play the re-arranged fixture as the previous meeting between the two sides last month saw the tragic in-game death of Wisbech player Arturas Rudys.

Diss chairman Andy Jermy said that the club are fully supportive of Wisbech’s decision to postpone the fixture.

The two sides are scheduled to meet at Mackenders on Saturday January 20 where tributes to Rudys will be paid.

A donation page set up by Jolita Kiseliovaite, Rudys’ girlfriend and mother of their two-year-old child, has raised almost £30,000 in just over a month.

Jermy insisted this could be the most ‘close-knit squad Diss has ever had’ after the death of the 27-year-old and that the two clubs will be ‘linked in a particular way in the future’.

On Saturday, Diss fell to their third defeat in a row in the Counties 1 Eastern Counties with a 44-16 loss away at Ely.

The result means Clive Bell’s side remain ninth in the table three points ahead of 10th-placed Ipswich Y.M and five points behind West Norfolk in eighth, with a game in hand on both teams.
