Diss out to shoot down the Robins
Diss Town will be eager to gain ground on the Thurlow Nunn League First Division’s chasing pack when they entertain Ely City on Saturday (3pm).
In-form Ely currently sit second in Thurlow Nunn League First Division, with the Tangerines 10 points and six places adrift.
Victory at Brewers Green Lane could see Diss peg back their rivals and gain ground on the top-placed teams.
However, Ross Potter’s squad will have to be at their best to get one over the Robins, who were relegated alongside them last season.
Ely are currently in a fine run of form, having only lost one of their past eight league contests, a narrow 1-0 defeat at table-topping Wivenhoe Town.
The remaining seven contests in that sequence have seen City win six times and draw the once.
Indeed, their past four First Division matches have seen them claim maximum points at the expense of Debenham LC, Halstead Town, Leiston and Braintree Town.
The Robins also earned a 2-1 victory over Diss back in early September at the Unwin Sports Ground.
In a scrappy contest Mark Appleton netted for the Tangerines, but goals from James Seymour and Alex Theobold either side of that close-range header secured three points for City.
Diss can, however, take heart from the fact that Ely have not been as strong on the road so far this term.
Three of their four defeats have come on their travels - away at Stowmarket Town, Great Yarmouth Town and pace setters Wivenhoe Town.
