Diss Rugby Club’s walking rugby team produce goods against Wymondham and Fakenham
Diss’ walking rugby team made an impressive start to life under new captain Matt Slater.
Travelling to Wymondham for a tri-team round robin tournament, Slater’s side recorded three victories and conceded just two tries.
First time out against hosting Wymondham I, Diss recorded a 4-1 win thanks to tries from Slater, Simon Scott (2) and winger Tania Wyatt. The result was all the more impressive given that Diss lost both Mike Bardwell and Dave Poulter to the sin bin for positional infringements.
Diss’ second fixture ended in an even greater margin of victory as they beat Fakenham 6-0.
Scott added two more tries alongside one more from Slater before Wyatt, Bryan Claybrook and Julian Thompson all got in on the act after the restart.
And Diss signed off with a 6-1 triumph over Wymondham II, which saw Scott contribute another brace of tries. Claybrook also scored two, with Slater and Dave Poulter finishing off a positive event.
