Diss Rugby Club head coach Alex Kelsall steps down after tough start to new Counties 2 Eastern Counties season

Alex Kelsall has stepped down as head coach of Diss Rugby Club’s first team.

Kelsall took up the position in the summer of 2024 as the successor to Clive Bell.

However, it has been a tough period at the helm for Kelsall in terms of results, with Diss being relegated from Counties 1 Eastern Counties last term.

And having lost all four of their opening Counties 2 Eastern Counties fixtures so far this season, the RFU Advanced Level 3 qualified coach has opted to step aside.

A statement from the club read: “After much consideration and discussion, Alex Kelsall has made the difficult decision to leave his position as head coach with immediate effect.

“The club would like to thank Alex for all his hard work over the past two seasons and we wish him well in all his future endeavours.”

Matt Richards, who earlier this year made his 500th appearance for the club, will take interim charge of the team for this weekend’s home encounter against Thorney.
