Diss bring back Will Dawson and are hopeful of having an overseas for 2021 season
A familiar face has returned to Diss as the club’s first addition for the upcoming 2021 campaign.
Will Dawson spent a number of seasons with the Rectory Meadow-based club before opting to link up with neighbouring Mellis four years ago.
However, the all-rounder, who has also previously kept wicket, is now back among the ranks at Diss.
And skipper Lewis Taylor is pleased to have recruited a player that will help to bolster both the batting and bowling ranks.
“It’s great to have Will back at the club after a few seasons with Mellis,” said the captain.
“He’s going to really add something to our batting and bowling this season – we needed a bit more depth in those departments.
“We’ve struggled a little bit batting wise recently and rely too heavily on the Tooke brothers to score the majority of our runs.
“We’re also a little light on pace bowling and Will is going to help solve that.”
Taylor also revealed that the club is working towards securing the services of an overseas player.
Certain details still need to be ironed out, but Taylor is hopeful of being able to conclude a deal for an all-rounder that will open the batting and bowling.
He added: “We’re working towards bringing in an overseas before the season gets started.
“Things are a little up in the air with things like Covid restrictions, but we are hopeful something can be sorted.
“We’ve got somebody lined up who can open the batting and bowling – a real exciting player – so it would be good to get that done.”
And in terms of further additions, that is likely to be Diss done before their Norfolk Cricket Alliance Premier Division opener at home to Norwich on May 1.
“With Will coming in and hopefully the overseas, that is likely to be us ready,” said Taylor.
“We’ve kept all our players so the squad is looking strong.”
