Daniels wins his first race of the year
Andrew Daniels won his first race of 2015 last Saturday as members of the Diss and District Racing Pigeon Club sent nearly 50 birds to Alencon in France.
At a distance of nearly 300 miles, it was the first significant channel race but the pigeons made relatively easy work of it with good returns all round on the day. Daniels, racing from his lofts in Diss, won with a six-year-old cock bird, velocity 1,289.
His nephew, Kelvin Sharman, took second position with a two-year-old, returning home in six hours and 40 minutes, vel 1,221. Graham Seaman was third and John and Lee Curtis fourth.
Several hours earlier the club also held a shorter inland race from Woking. Nearly 300 birds were sent and it was a good day for yearlings, with the first nine birds in the result being 2014 bred pigeons.
Steven Kaschner won (vel 1,580) with Andrew Daniels second and third and Glen Arterton fourth.
