Diss Town beaten 3-2 by Gorleston Reserves in Thurlow Nunn League First Division North encounter at Brewers Green Lane

Diss Town were beaten 3-2 in controversial circumstances by Gorleston Reserves on Tuesday night.

With the encounter at Brewers Green Lane locked at two goals apiece heading into the final 10 minutes, the visitors’ Joel Watts found the back of the net despite appearing to be in an offside position.

However, with Diss appealing for a flag that never came, Gorleston celebrated a goal that moved them to within a point of their hosts in the race for the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North play-offs.

Earlier in the contest the Tangerines broke the deadlock in the 17th minute through Malachi Wright, who forced the ball over the line after numerous blocks from the Gorleston defence.

The away side’s Connor Ingram restored parity just before the break from the penalty spot, but early in the second half Diss regained the lead through Liam Jackson’s close-range finish.

However, that advantage proved to be short lived as Gorleston equalised for a second time when Declan Allen headed in from inside the six-yard box.

Then came the game’s big talking point, which was followed by Diss’ Kyle Baker being dismissed for his protest.

Diss, who played out a 0-0 draw at Whitton United last weekend, remain fifth in the standings ahead of another home encounter against ninth-placed Pinchbeck United tomorrow (3pm).

The two sides are yet to meet this season, with the reverse fixture scheduled for March 15.
