Brett Claydon confident positive results are not too far away

Brett Claydon believes he is not too far away from stringing together some positive results.

Since earning a PDC Tour Card at Q-School for the first time earlier this year, the Soham darting ace has featured in the Players Championship and Coral UK Open.

He won once over the four days at the former, while in the latter on Friday – which was also his television debut – the 38-year-old lost 6-3 to Danny Baggish in the opening round.

Nevertheless, Claydon is happy with his overall performance so far and feels that it has been a case of being on the wrong end of small margins.

“It’s been a bit of whirlwind since getting through Q-School,” he said.

“I felt like I took my game up to a new level at Q-School and although I haven’t got the results, I feel like it’s gone up a bit more since.

“Up against the best 128 players in the world so I’ve got to perform all the time.

“At times I’ve been a bit unlucky. Against Dirk van Duijvenbode I averaged 101.60 and still lost 6-4 – it’s just been going that way a bit.”

Against Baggish in front of the cameras, Claydon missed two chances at double four to break for a 4-3 lead. His American opponent made the most of the let off and proceeded to win three legs in a row to make the second round.

“Ninety-nine per cent of the people I’ve spoken have said I’d have won the game if I’d won that leg,” added the former Walsham-le-Willows and Sudbury Town player.

“That was my chance. If it had gone in it would have changed my mindset and he’d have been chasing me. All I can is take those experiences going forward.”
