Burroughs is back at Diss to prove a point

Adam Burroughs believes he has a point to prove as he aims to make the most of his Diss Town homecoming and fire the club to promotion.

The young striker has made a return to Brewers Green Lane from a difficult campaign at Mildenhall Town last season, having originally left the Tangerines following a tenuous period under former manager Mike Derbyshire.

However, after returning ‘home’, Burroughs is desperate to resolve some unfinished business at the club and help guide Diss back to the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.

“I think there is some unfinished business for me here,” he said. “Myself and Mike Derbyshire didn’t really get on and so that was enough for me to move on.

“It didn’t really work for me at Mildenhall either, but only being 21 still I feel I have a lot to give and I want to prove a point now I’m back.

“Diss means so much to me as a club and it was a massive shame to see them go down. I think I can come here, make a difference and possibly help them get back up.

“It is my home club and so hopefully we can really push on.

“It’s great to be home. I grew up as a kid close by, and so to come back and play for a club that I grew up at is great and I’ve told the manager I want to be here for the long haul.”

Burroughs, who is nursing a hamstring ligament injury, was forced to watch on from the sidelines on Saturday as Chris Holmes struck a last-minute leveller to secure a 1-1 draw with higher-league Saffron Walden Town.

However, ahead of the season opener against Dereham Town Reserves on Tuesday, August 11, Burroughs has handed manager Ross Potter a major boost with the news that he is due back in action sooner than first thought.

“Originally we feared it was a really bad one but once the swelling went down we discovered it was a more minor ligament injury and so they said nine weeks out,” he added.

“However, I’m pushing really hard to be back for the start of the season and it looks like I might miss only a few games.

“I will come back stronger and I’m desperate to help Diss go out and show people we are still a strong team.

“We were unfortunate to go down but we are more settled now and I don’t see any reason why we can’t go back up and perhaps challenge for a cup, that would be a great start.

“We are all here for the right reason and the group we have has the right attitude, which is what this club needs.”
