Botolph Bowmen past battle

Last Sunday 11 members of the Botolph’s Bowmen, Archery Club, held their annual Agincourt Shoot at their Mellis Cricket Club range.

This year, the occasion was particularly relevant, as it was on the very day of the 600th anniversary of the battle between Henry V’s troops and the French army.

Nobody expected the outnumbered English to win but, thanks to the prowess of the longbow archers, the enemy was well and truly defeated.

In recognition of this achievement Botolphs Bowmen only allow longbows and bare recurve bows at this event .

Although their bows are not quite the same as the 200lb draw weight of the war bow, they still need to be used with skill and expertise.
