Harleston Town joint boss happy with start to the 2020/21 campaign

Harleston Town joint manager Nicky Howell has been pleased with the start his side have made to the 2020/21 season.

Third-placed Town have collected 16 points from the first 18 on offer in the Anglian Combination Premier Division, and would move top if they won their two games in hand.

Howell said: “We wanted to make sure we had a good start and that is what we’ve managed to do.

“There was a disappointing draw with Dussindale, but we’ve responded well with a couple of big wins.

“We brought in some big names in the summer and we obviously have that tag of being one of the favourites.

“In the Dussindale game, we felt they played out of their skins. We are a big scalp and that is something we have to manage as a group.

“And we’ve been doing that well. We’ve scored 12 in our last two and felt like some momentum was building before this break.”

The ‘break’ Howell eludes to will keep all non-elite clubs out of action until at least the first weekend of December as the government seeks to reduce the number of Covid-19 cases.

Teams cannot train together during this period, but Howell is keen to ensure his players remain in shape for when the restart comes.

“We’ve got a group chat on WhatsApp and I put a message in there about how important it is that they stay on top of their fitness,” he added.

“They’ll be doing their own things over the coming weeks and we’ve given them a few ideas as well to keep them going.

“We want to really hit the ground running when football is back because we’d been playing well.

“We’d been compact at the back and were scoring plenty of goals. Now we want to make sure we push on as soon as we get the chance.”
