Framlingham Town manager wants an improved 2020/21 season

Liam Abraham ‘wants and expects better’ from his Framlingham Town side during the upcoming 2020/21 campaign.

After their relegation from the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division at the end of 2018/19, the Castlemen found it tough to adjust to life back in the First Division North.

They won just eight times before Covid-19 stopped proceedings and sat 16th in the table.

However, with the demotion now hopefully out of their system, Abraham is eager to see a much improved season.

“Last season was disappointing and we expected much better,” he said.

“It is a tough league and there are no easy games, but even so we got nowhere near our targets.

“It was a tough season in the Premier Division results-wise and it’s possible that winning mentality and ability to grind out results faded a little bit.

“You see it in the professional game sometimes, teams struggle to adapt after being relegated.

“What the break has done is given us the chance to regroup and refocus.

“Training has gone well, the commitment has been good and I want and expect better this season.

“There is no major target, it is just about performances. If the performances are good the results will come.”

Before opening up their league season at King’s Lynn Town Reserves on September 5, Framlingham will head to Diss Town in the extra preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).

“It’s a local game which will help with the preparation, although it looks like they have changed a bit from last season,” he added.

“It’s hard to know what to expect because there is no form going into it, but it’s the FA Cup. It’s a big selling point for the players and it will be a big night for the club.”

In terms of recruitment, Framlingham have added goalkeeper Ben Vincent and midfielder George Exworth.
