Big racing names head for Snetterton
Britain’s biggest car racing series, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, will come to Snetterton this weekend.
Featuring cars recognisable from the UK’s streets, the BTCC is renowned for bumper-to-bumper action, with three races at every event.
Snetterton kicks off the second half of the championship season, with all of the drivers getting back behind the wheel after a six-week summer break.
The opening 15 rounds of this year’s championship have already produced 10 different winners from the 32-car grid, with no driver taking more than two victories.
This has left the standings wide open with the top 12 separated by just 63 points, with 67 on offer at Snetterton alone.
Leading the title race heading into the weekend are the WSR BMWs of Sam Tordoff and Rob Collard.
Tordoff is a former winner at Snetterton, and third BMW driver Jack Goff won here last year, but the team faces a strong challenge from the reigning champion Honda team, with triple champion Matt Neal and current BTCC king Gordon Shedden ready to fight back in Norfolk.
Also expected to challenge will be the Motorbase Ford team, with former BTCC champion Andrew Jordan and team-mate Mat Jackson in the hunt for victories.
n Meanwhile, Snetterton have announced that a hairpin bend will be named after the late Justin Wilson. Full story page six.
