Jake Lambert and Maisie Holden to represent Attleborough Boxing Club in National Schools Championships this weekend

Jon Dennis insists it will be ‘win or learn’ when two of his Attleborough Boxing Club members compete in the England Boxing National Schools Championships this weekend.

The national competition, which is open to male and female boxers aged between 12 and 14, concludes with the finals at the Guildford Spectrum.

The two-day finale will see the semi-finals take place tomorrow, before the champions are crowned on Sunday, with Attleborough duo Jake Lambert and Maisie Holden, both 12, in action.

“They’re both young boxers and they’re both incredibly hard working,” Attleborough’s head coach Dennis said.

“It’s the start of their journey. They never miss a session and their work ethos is good. They do it all with a smile on their face.

“They realise this is just a stepping stone. To get better at boxing you’ve got to box, and you can’t get better at anything without experience.

“It won’t be win or lose. It’s win or learn at that age. They’re both great kids and this is an added bonus.

“They’ve been training hard and we hope they will do well in the competition.”

For both Lambert and Holden this year’s Schools Championships marks a first appearance in a national competition, with the Attleborough pair having impressed on their way to reaching the finals.

“Jake’s boxed around the country in the build up to this and he’s beat some good kids on the way,” coach Dennis added.

“Maisie has boxed a couple of bouts and she’s unbeaten.”
