Two Attleborough Boxing Club members will be competing for national glory in the finals of the England Boxing National Junior Championships this weekend.

Thomas Willett and Finn Harris are set to represent the club in the finale of the national competition, which takes place at Wigan’s Robin Park Sports and Tennis Centre.

Willett, 14, faces John-Boy Hodgkins, of Mikeys, in the Junior Cadet Male Under-60kg category, while Harris, 15, takes on Manor’s Sam Sampson in the Junior Open Male Under-54kg weight class.

The duo will both be in action in the semi-finals tomorrow, with the finals to follow on Sunday, as Willett joined his club-mate in Wigan after a unanimous decision victory over Shyian Uddin, from Mamba Gym, at the Brentwood Centre last weekend.

“He boxed well and it was a good, strong performance from Thomas,” Jon Dennis, the head coach at Attleborough, said.

“There’s a lot of excitement and anticipation for this weekend.

“You want to take on the best in the country in your weight and age and experience and that’s what you train for to compete with the best.

“Finn got a bye through the quarter-finals. He’s been out sparring with top quality opposition and he’s in a very good group, but that’s where you want to be as a boxer, pitting your skills against the best.”

Meanwhile, Attleborough member Charlie Jay has been selected for England Boxing’s Performance Pathway after impressing at a recent selection camp.

Dennis added: "It's a fantastic achievement for Charlie to be selected for the England development programme.

"He went down to a selection camp and he got the good news via email that he's now on the programme, which means he's been marked as one for the future.

"He'll now get a certain amount of contact days with England coaches and he could compete for his country.

"Charlie's boxed over 20 times this season and he's coming on really well."
