Another big defeat could be final nail in the coffin
Manager Mark Reeve has warned Diss Town that a repeat performance like the one in the 4-1 defeat to Brantham Athletic could prove the final nail in relegation-threatened side’s coffin.
The Tangerines threw away a golden opportunity to close the gap to Wivenhoe Town, one place above the drop zone, to just three points on Saturday as a second-half capitulation saw them relinquish a 1-0 half-time lead at Athletic to bring a six-match unbeaten run abruptly to a halt.
And ahead of welcoming rivals Walsham-le-Willows to Brewers Green Lane tomorrow (3pm), Reeve is adamant his side will be relegated if they continue to drop points in the same manner.
“We can’t afford to keep losing points that we need to win,” he said. “One more disastrous performance and result like the last one could prove to be the final nail in our coffin.
“At half-time we were confident of going on and getting the three points, but things completely changed after the break and we just folded like a deck of cards.
“That second half was dismal and the biggest frustration is to me is that was our biggest game of the season — three points would have seen us make a massive jump towards safety.
“The players let themselves down, it was a massive chance spurned and now our task becomes even harder.
“I don’t think it will affect the players, but I made it crystal clear that if they continue to perform like that we will be relegated.”
