Banham Zoo ‘delighted’ as attraction announces new snow leopard arrival
The Zoological Society of East Anglia has announced that a new snow leopard will soon be joining Banham Zoo, following the deaths of two of the attraction’s favourites.
The zoo has said on social media it will be welcoming Shen, a 20-month-old male from The Big Cat Sanctuary, in Smarden, near Ashford in Kent.
On June 30, the decision was made for the site’s 18 year-old female snow leopard, Enif, to be put to sleep after issues with reoccurring ulcers in her eyes – her partner, Rocky, had died at the age of 17, in February 2022.
On the Banham Zoo Facebook page, it said: “We are delighted to announce that we will soon be welcoming snow leopard Shen from The Big Cat Sanctuary!
“We are so pleased to be continuing our pledge to protect the future of international species, including snow leopards, through our work with the Endangered Species Programme (EEP).
“We can’t wait for you all to meet him soon! Stay tuned for further updates.”
