The English Distillery in East Harling announces fifth warehouse as brand expands

A multi-award-winning whisky distillery has built a fifth warehouse as it continues to expand.

The English Distillery in Roudham, near East Harling, which was officially opened by the then Prince of Wales in 2007, officially opened a new 12,000 square feet storage space at the start of December.

Owner Andrew Nelstrop, whose father, James, had the idea to build the country’s first registered whisky distillery for more than 100 years in 2005, said the idea of adding to the firm’s estate first came about in 2022.

He said: “In 2019, we launched a new business called Cadus Vaults, which was to offer maturation facilities to other whisky distillers.

“This new business was far busier than we could have imagined and so we dedicated one of our warehouses to this. It quickly became obvious that there was going to be a need for additional space.”

The company, which won the Best Single Malt category at the World Whiskies Awards for its English Sherry Cask last year, can now accommodate 13,000 casks – enough to make more than five million bottles of whisky.

“This new space allows us to continue to grow both The English Distillery and Cadus Vaults by giving us the space to allow casks to be laid down for longer,” said Mr Nelstrop.

“Global demand is still strong for older whiskies. The English, our single malt brand, has been distilling for more than 18 years.

“Some of these have a further 30 years to mature before being bottled. Patience is needed when making whisky and this new space will give us more room to do just that.”

Since its launch in 2007, The English Distillery has gone from strength to strength and Mr Nelstrop said this could not have been achieved without their customers.

He added: “We would like to thank all of our incredibly loyal customers, without whom we would not be here.

“The need for their continued support and their ability to pass on our story to others is incredibly important to us.”
