A woman was trapped in her car in a water-filled ditch in Wingfield following an accident yesterday morning.

It happened in Top Road, just after 8am.

One appliance from Stradbroke, another from Harleston and the specialist water rescue team from Norwich were mobilised, on arrival finding the casualty, in her 20s, trapped in the two-foot ditch and unable to get out of the vehicle.

Heavy cutting gear was used, with the woman free by 9.21am.

First aid was also given by fire service personnel.

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said the patient was treated with complaints of back pain.

She was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, with her injuries not thought to be too serious.
