Oaklands care home staff member steps in to win Easter cake competition
Oaklands Care Home has put the icing on its Easter week – in the form of a competition-crowning cake.
The Diss-based care home would have been firm favourite to win the nationwide contest among Kingsley Healthcare residences, due to the fact that its head chef is a pastry specialist, who is highly qualified in the art.
However, with pastry supremo Said Guenaoui on holiday during the week of the competition, Becky Kingsland, the home’s administrator, stepped up to the (what we assume was a very tasty) plate.
And much to the delight of Oaklands staff, she won the competition with her creation.
Becky, 25, from Hoxne, said: “I have been baking since I was a child and it’s my real passion. I love creating new ideas and recipes in the kitchen in my spare time.
“Said was thrilled that I had won the competition in his absence and really admired the cake.”
