Diss PureGym, in Victoria Road, announces opening date

A town’s newest gym has revealed when it will be opening its doors to members.

PureGym, the UK’s largest gym operator, will open its new facility in Diss at midday on Friday, June 13.

Located in Victoria Road, near to Poundstretcher and Screwfix, the 5,000 square foot gym will provide 24/7 access to its members, a combined functional and class space and a free weights area as well as fixed resistance and cardiovascular equipment.

A spokesperson for PureGym said: “Following strong demand for PureGym’s flexible, affordable fitness offering in Norfolk, we are excited to be expanding our presence with a brand-new gym in Diss.

“Members will have around-the-clock access to everything they need to improve their overall wellbeing and leave the gym feeling their best.

“We cannot wait to welcome members through the doors of PureGym Diss.”

The new gym comes as some residents have questioned the amount of gyms in the town, which already has Diss Fit Club and Heywood Fitness Centre.

Some have said this “gym-vasion” will also be exacerbated by the building of a new £6 million community health and fitness facility with a potential 55-station gym coming to the former John Grose car dealership in the town’s Park Road.

PureGym lodged its application for its plans for the former home of the Original Factory Shop in the town with South Norfolk Council at the start of the year.

The discount retailer had been trading in Diss since 2012 selling discounted homeware, furniture and toys, but closed last year, with the large unit sitting empty since.

PureGym, which was launched in the UK back in 2009, is said to have more than 1.5 million UK members and more than 410 clubs across the country.

The business also has gyms out of the UK, in Denmark, Switzerland and the United States, as well as having franchise partner operating clubs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
