Palgrave Players are finalists in National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) awards
An amateur musical theatre group, which was only founded three years ago, has been nominated for a national award.
Palgrave Players has been nominated for Best Musical in the East by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (Noda).
Noda’s review of the Players’ production of Once: The Musical said the “heartfelt performances and stunning musical arrangements made it a truly unforgettable experience”.
Producer Cathal Prendergast said the nomination was a huge boost.
“It highlights the incredible hidden talent in our local community and the high standards of musical theatre we are achieving on our doorstep,” he said. “We are just so proud of what we have built in such a short time.”
Once: The Musical is based on the Irish film of the same name, written by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, who won an Oscar for the song Falling Slowly.
Players chairman Nicola Diggins said: “I am immensely proud of the entire group. Every production is a huge team effort and it is fantastic to have been nominated.
“From the cast to the production team, the creativity and dedication of our members has allowed us to produce sets and performances we can be truly proud of.
“This nomination is wonderful recognition for their hard work and loyalty.”
The Players, whose ethos is to provide a sense of community and friendship whilst striving to create high-quality musical theatre, will return to Garboldisham Village Hall on April 4 and 5, with Country Nights.
An ensemble will perform a number of country music songs, with the audience invited to join in, should they wish, by dancing.
The Players will find out if they have won the category at an awards ceremony in Stevenage on May 11.
