Community enjoys packed Easter weekend at St Andrew's Church in Fersfield
A packed weekend of Easter activities helped St Andrew’s Church in Fersfield take another key step towards realising its refurbishment ambitions.
Visitors turned out in large numbers for the Easter-themed event on Saturday.
It included an Easter Egg hunt for children and a treasure hunt geared more towards adults, based on the church’s history.
Among other attractions were craft demonstrations, including wooden spoon making, as well as cake sales and a ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ competition, which all helped to raise a total of around £700 towards church funds.
Turnout was also strong the following day, when residents arrived back at the church for the Easter Sunday family service.
Richard Hewitt, chairman of Bressingham and Fersfield Parish Council, told the Diss Express it was pleasing to see the church still being used, both in the traditional sense of religious observance, and as a community-driven venue.
He added that the money raised from the Easter events would go towards plans for restoration of the building.
“St Andrew’s is Fersfield’s only public building,” said Mr Hewitt. “It’s very much supported by the community.
“We hope to have it developed into the kind of place where people regularly meet.
“The big thing is to give the village a focus and have a building which everyone is very fond of and is community based as well.
“The Easter Saturday event was very successful as a community event, and people enjoyed coming along and having somewhere they could get together.
“On Sunday, we also had a very full family service right across the age range.
“Overall, Fersfield had a very good Easter, and we look forward to having a nice summer.”
