Netherton Steakhouse in Long Stratton set for new use after sudden closure

A Norfolk steakhouse is set for a new lease of life after announcing its shock closure.

Netherton Steakhouse, in Long Stratton, shut its doors two months ago after more than eight years in the business.

The owners said rising staffing costs and bills had made the restaurant “unviable” and the decision was met with disappointment from locals.

However, the building may not be empty for long after a licensing application was lodged with South Norfolk Council.

Ugur Baris has applied to the authority for a new premises license at the restaurant, based in the town centre.

Mr Baris is seeking permission to sell alcohol for consumption both on and off the premises late into the evening, finishing at 11pm Sunday to Wednesday, midnight on Thursdays and 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

He also wants to play live and recorded music at the venue.

However, it is not clear what the exact nature of his business will be at this stage.

The application will be considered by South Norfolk Council in due course.
