Town’s South Norfolk Council Information hub moves from The Octagon in Diss to its swim centre

A town centre council information hub in Diss has closed to the public.

The Octagon, at 40 Mere Street, Diss, has been used by South Norfolk Council since 2022 for the public to enquire about services.

From today, the information service has moved to Diss Swim Centre in Victoria Road.

The council says the building will first be used as a centre for the public consultation into the John Grose development in Park Road, before being rented out.

Council leader Daniel Elmer said: “We are not removing the service, we are just moving it into the Swim Centre initially.

“When the new site being developed at John Grose is complete, the plan would be to move it there. We would like to emphasise we are not closing the service down.

“We are just rationalising things into a single building where we can, so that we can get the most money for the taxpayer out of the assets we have.”

The Octagon has previously been used as a tourist information centre, as well as an arts and crafts gallery.
