Diss Business Park clock man is visibly brighter after donation

A Diss landmark has been given a bright new look after a donation by a town’s builders’ merchant.

The man at the top of the six-metre diameter and two-tonne Tobar clock at Diss Business Park, in Hopper Way, has been given high-visibility clothing by Huws Gray of Victoria Road.

The giant backwards clock was bought by Reads Property Developments in 2015 for £1,175 during a sale at Durrants Auction Rooms.

The timepiece was so big that the company, whose headquarters is on the park, had to use a special police and wide load escort to get it to the site.

The business also had to apply for planning permission from South Norfolk Council to put it in the park as a public amenity.

The clock was constructed in 2008 by engineer Tim Hunkin and served as the centrepiece attraction for the Tobar Toys and Hawkin’s Bazaar Distribution Centre at the Ellough Industrial Estate in Beccles.
