A town support hub, which has been going for more than 20 years, is celebrating after being recognised for its community efforts.

Harleston Information Plus, based in Exchange Street, was crowned Community Organisation of the Year at the South Norfolk Community Awards.

Lucy Marjoram, who manages the hub and a team of 45 volunteers, said she was delighted.

“This award is fantastic recognition for all our hard work, dedication and commitment to supporting the community,” she told the Diss Express.

“Our volunteers go above and beyond to help the people of Harleston and the surrounding villages, and I am incredibly proud of the exceptional service we collectively provide.”

The charity, which first started as a not-for-profit company in 2003, provides access to essential services and activities, as well as job and befriending clubs.

Open six days a week, it welcomes an average of 4,000 visitors each year, handing out information such as tourist information leaflets, welcome packs for new residents, local walks, bus timetables, health and wellbeing information, and details on local events, clubs and groups.

Mrs Marjoram added: “Our comprehensive support services and dedication to the community have made a tangible difference to the lives of so many local people.

“We would like to thank everyone for all the support we have had over the years.

“I feel the recognition of our Community Organisation of the Year award underscores the profound impact the work of our volunteers has had on the area.

“We have grown so much over the years. All of our services are developed through the needs of the community and we are always looking for ways to support people at every turn.”
