Music returns to town to celebrate Diss Ukulele Day

A signature event in a town’s calendar returned this month, celebrating a small, but rather special, instrument.

Diss Ukulele Day, which started in 2018, attracted players from across the region on July 6, for a series of workshops and open mic sessions, before culminating in a concert headlined by Anarchy in the Ukulele.

Organised by avid ukulele player Peter Arnold, from Bressingham, the event also saw people take part in a ‘Big Strum’ in The Corn Hall in St Nicholas Street.

Mr Arnold said: “It really was a great day, with lots of interest in the workshops we laid on. It was brilliant to see so many people from across the region come to Diss again to celebrate the ukulele.”

Anyone interested in learning to play the instrument can join the Ukaholics Anonymous group, which meets in Palgrave Community Centre on Thursdays at 7pm until the end of July.
