Toucan play at that game as ‘bird Banksy’ inspires copycats in Rushall

A village road has seen feathered figures flocking to it as a ‘bird Banksy’ continues to strike.

A trio of herons, a decoy pigeon and a plastic rook have sprung up in Hall Lane in Rushall – and no one knows who is putting them there.

While Rob Vincent, who owns Vincent’s Garage, saw the funny side, not everyone was as impressed.

“We saw a heron, which we have now named Harry, screwed to a signpost when we came into work the other week and thought that it would make people smile,” he said.

“We then took a phone call from the council saying someone had complained about the road sign being vandalised.

“We were asked if we could take it down, so I took it off the sign and, instead, I got a bit of wood for Harry and hammered it into the ground next to it.”

While feathers flew over the so-called vandalism, far from flying the nest, the birds began to grow in number.

The next day, another heron turned up on the other side of the road, followed by a pigeon in a nearby bush. A week later, another heron appeared and a rook was spotted in a tree.

“My customers think it is hilarious as more and more just keep turning up,” said Mr Vincent. “It has been the talk of the village.

“Whoever is doing it is like a bird Banksy as they seem to keep placing them during the night.

“I am guessing it must be people from the village who have seen Harry, thought it was a fun idea, and are now putting their own ones up to add to the flock.”
