UEA Tennis Club serves up a treat for Dogs Trust Snetterton’s residents
Members of a university tennis club have served a big bag of fun to the four-legged residents of Snetterton Dogs Trust, by donating their used tennis balls to the rehoming centre.
The University of East Anglia (UEA) Tennis Club’s publicity officer and co-social secretary Ruby Pummell and club president Ed Ingles drove the balls over to the North End Road site.
Miss Pummell said: “Being a large club, we go through a lot of balls very quickly and hate the idea of just throwing them away when we cannot use them anymore, as we are always trying to be as sustainable as possible.
“We thought that by donating the balls to Dogs Trust, not only would the balls be repurposed and gain a new lease of life, but we could also help them to save money on resources and give the dogs something new to play with.”
Mr Ingles added: “I am very proud of the tennis club this year and all that we have achieved. This really exemplifies the ways that we like to conduct ourselves and to give back to the community whenever we can.”
The manager of the Dogs Trust site, Kelly Smith, thanked the club for donating their balls to their four-legged residents to get their paws on.
“Donations like these are always greatly appreciated,” she added. “Small comforts like tennis balls to play around with help us care for, entertain and engage with the dogs waiting for their forever homes.”
The Snetterton rehoming centre can care for up to 70 dogs at a time and in 2023 helped 287 canines find new homes.
