Great British Businesswoman Award winner, Tracy Turner from Attleborough, thanks team for success

An entrepreneur, who launched a business from her kitchen table, has thanked her team after winning a prestigious award.

Tracy Turner was named Entrepreneurial Businesswoman of the Year in the sustainability and impact category of The Great British Businesswoman Awards.

Her business, Turner’s Occupational Health and Wellbeing Services in Attleborough, has come a long way from humble beginnings.

The 64-year-old said: “In May 2017, I retired from a national occupational health company but, within a couple of days, I got bored, so I decided to open my own business.

“I started off from my kitchen table, doing management referrals, and gradually increased the workload until I could afford to take on my son, Harry, to be a technician. It has just grown from there.”

After a number of moves to different premises in the town, Mrs Turner was able to take on more staff as the business grew, before stumbling on the final piece of the jigsaw: a site with more than a little family history.

“The premises we are in now was originally purchased by my mother and father in 1980 and ran as a DIY shop,” said Mrs Turner. “When the business that was in here left, my sister and I were ready to sell the shop, but I thought I could renovate it and move the business in here, and it’s proved the perfect spot.”

Mrs Turner and her 14-strong team offer occupational health services, menopause support, counselling, hypnotherapy and earwax microsuction,

“To receive this kind of recognition at this stage of my career is incredibly rewarding,” she told the Diss Express.

“Sitting in a room filled with some of the biggest global companies and sharing the stage with such inspiring business leaders was an experience I never could have imagined when I started this journey.”

She knows this would not have happened without her team, and the community embracing her business idea back in 2017.

“This award is a true reflection of everything the team and I have worked so hard to build, and I could not have done it without them,” said Mrs Turner.

“Their dedication, passion and belief in what we do has been the driving force behind our success.”

This may not be the only accolade the business takes home this year as it is in the final of the Health and Wellbeing category for the East of England Small Business Awards.

Mrs Turner said: “I am so excited about the future and the many ways we can continue to support businesses and communities across Norfolk.

“Going from where I started the business to where it is now, I never had a plan, I just wake up at 2am in the morning and have an idea and put it into place.

“Thankfully, we are going in the right direction and I am also proud to be employing local people.

“I get emotional when I think about all the support I’ve had and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has been there for me throughout this journey.”
