Teachers from Diss High School take on Movember

A group of teachers from Diss High School are growing moustaches to support men’s health.

Science teacher Simon Russell, maths teacher James Dugdale and assistant headteachers Ben Lea, Billy Adamson and Duncan Somers are all taking on Movember.

The annual event, by the Movember Foundation, calls on men to grow moustaches and raise money to support issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide.

Mr Lea said: “It is something that we have done at Diss High School for a number of years.

“We have all got our own personal connections to the movement and, as a school, it is a really positive thing to discuss men’s health, both physical and mental.

“Blokes are not always great at looking after themselves and, personally, my family have lost men in the past to suicide, so if I can raise funds to help improve men’s mental health around the world by growing a silly moustache, then I will.”

The quintet are hoping they can match last year’s fundraising total of £518.

“We are certainly incredibly grateful to all those people who have donated to the cause already,” added Mr Lea. “We would also be delighted if more people can do so over the rest of the month.

“We all feel doing our bit in this way and helping to raise awareness of men’s health issues is really such an important thing.”

Since Movember began in 2003, the fundraiser has raised more than £598 million for research, supporting more than 1,250 initiatives across the globe in mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
