Husband joins wife at Carters of Suffolk as teapot business looks to go global
An artisan teapot pottery company has welcomed a new member staff, as it seeks a global reach.
John Baldry has joined Carters of Suffolk as business development consultant.
It follows 45 years working for the BT Group, where he held positions including regional manager for customer service.
Carters, based at Stonham Barns Park, Stonham Aspal, is run by John’s wife, Valerie, who took over the business after the founder retired in September.
The pottery and shop, which also has a tearoom attached, has seen major expansion, including a deal with United States TV company PBS, which regularly features its products.
John will be developing all aspects of the business, including product development, customer service, global sales and marketing and community engagement.
He said: “It is privilege to join this globally recognised UK business that is flying the flag for beautifully crafted, hand-made novelty teapots.
“Carters is seeing a resurgence of people buying quality British products again and demand for British gift items is still strong in Europe and the US.
“I intend to enhance our service offering and to keep our customers engaged as we push for future growth.”
Wife Valerie added: “John’s appointment will further consolidate the Carters operation, which has been enjoying success with new orders from the UK and all parts of the globe.
“We have a significant following of national and international buyers, who appreciate the skill and creativity of the products.
“I am excited to see what new developments we can bring to the range in the years ahead.
“It’s also great to be working with my husband and last week we had one of our busiest weeks of the year.”
Carters of Suffolk supplies department stores, museums, gift shops and tearooms around the UK, Europe the US, and via online retailers. It is co-owned by park owner Alan Forward.
