The fine, dry weather has been bringing beaming smiles all round this week with Sunday proving the hottest day this year.

The eastern region saw its hottest day of the year as temperatures reached 27C in some areas.

Abigail Yaxley, 23, her daughter Isla, two, and friend Amber Lester, 20, were out on last week catching a few rays down by the glistening Mere.

For little Isla, it proved all too much.

“We did a bit of shopping and then she fell asleep in her pushchair,” said Abigail, who lives in the town.

“Lets hope the fine weather continues.”

After more than five days of temperatures 5ºC above average for this time of year, East Anglia has been experiencing a heatwave, according to official definitions.

June has also been declared the driest on record.
