Parents and carers are being urged to get in their applications for their child’s preferred primary school for 2014/15 by the Suffolk County Council.

The deadline is Wednesday, January 15.

Anyone with children born between September 1, 2009 and August 31, 2010, can apply for up to three schools online, the council’s recommended method of applying, or through the paper application form.

An application must be made even if a child has a place in a nursery class, pre-school or children’s centre.

Any applications received after the deadline will be considered after all others have been processed, with the council revealing they received 800 late applications last year.

Councillor Lisa Chambers, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for education, skills and young people, said: “Choosing the right primary school for your child is one of the most important decisions a parent or carer has to make. That is why we hope that by now, people will have considered the schools that they would like to apply for places in and visited them. If not, please make this a new year priority as time is running out.

“It’s important that parents and carers use the opportunity to apply for up to three schools, in order of preference, so that we can best match their preferences within the application rules.

“Suffolk has a good track record of offering places at preferred schools but we really do need to know about all preferences in order to continue this. I’d urge anyone with questions to contact the county council as soon as possible.”

Any parents or carers who have not yet applied should apply online at or call Suffolk County Council immediately on 0845 6000981.
