Stradbroke D-Day veterans to visit Normandy for wreath laying

Two members of the Stradbroke and District Branch of the Royal British Legion are set to a lay a wreath at Normandy in June, in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.

Branch member Alan King, pictured left, and Ted Bootle, branch president, who are both D-Day veterans, will travel to France in the summer with the floral tribute, which was prepared by Margaret Streeter, the wife of branch secretary and chaplain, Reverend David Streeter.

The pair were pictured at the annual dinner of the Stradbroke and District branch, where more than 50 members and guests attended.

It was held at Stradbroke Community Centre towards the end of last month.

At the dinner, the Ken Richardson Memorial Shield was presented to Mr King’s daughter, Joyce Cooper, for her good work for the branch as welfare officer, standard bearer and organizer of a number of very successful fundraising events.
