Alexander O'Neal is set to visit Brome for charity concert
A soul fan is jumping for joy after learning that one of the most famous names in soul music, Alexander O’Neal, has agreed to perform at his latest fundraising event in Brome.
Lee Lucraft, 46, has been busy arranging his latest charity concert at the Oaksmere Hotel to raise funds for British soul singer, and friend, Kenny Thomas.
In February last year, Mr Thomas, who had a string of hits in the 90s, and now lives near Norwich, found out his five-year-old daughter Christina had an inoperable brain tumour. He has since been raising money for specialist treatment in Cologne, Germany, which costs up to £16,000 a month.
Lee, who lives in Eye, was a fan of Mr Thomas in the 90s and started arranging fundraising events after they first met at one of Mr Thomas’ concerts, and then became friends over Facebook.
In September last year, he managed to raise £4,000 for the cause with a concert at Eye community centre, at which Mr Thomas, performed himself.
In 2017, ‘80s stars including Midge Ure,Tony Hadley, Kim Wilde, Martin Fry and Nik Kershaw also held a special charity performance to help raise funds for Mr Thomas.
Alexander O’Neal’s most famous hit was Criticize in 1987.
The event on June 1 will also feature Kenny Thomas, himself, and Randy Corwood.
Early bird tickets cost £37.50 and £41 on general sale.
“He is looking forward to coming and also staying the night at the Oaksmere,” said Lee.
“The man is a soul legend. We are going to set up a marquee for him which will hold around 400 people.”
