Sliding down through Framlingham Castle’s history

Visitors to Framlingham Castle are on the slide. A 6.6m slide, in fact, from the castle’s wall walk down to the inner court.

The slide was “opened” on Monday by former castle resident Queen Mary 1 - the Tudor monarch was proclaimed queen at Framlingham - and English Heritage member Jack Love, seven, from Worlingworth, got the first go after winning a competition. It will stay open until May, taking advantage of the current conservation and repairs to the castle’s curtain wall, walk and bridges.

As well as the specialist conservation programme, a visitor improvement project is also in progress at the castle’s Poorhouse. A new 40-seat cafe and the reintroduction of a mezzanine floor to accommodate a new exhibition should be completed by the summer.
