Eye’s ‘I Love Eye’ Valentine’s Day shop local campaign is not just a convenient play on words.

The town is using Friday, February 14 as a symbol of what the local businesses in the town have to offer - in this case for loved-up couples.

According to Eye Business Forum chairman, Bruce Salter, Eye has everything you need to woo your true love.

He said: “Eye has flowers and chocolates, jewellery and cards, perfume and trinkets.

“You can get your hair done, enjoy beauty treatments, and even buy the fabric you need to make yourself a new dress.

“Our butchers, delicatessen and greengrocer can supply you with gorgeous ingredients if you’re cooking a romantic meal at home, but the pub and our Chinese restaurant are also open for those who are less adept in the kitchen.

“Loving couples might also consider enjoying a portrait session at Eye’s photographic studio, or maybe sign up together for arts and crafts lesson at the town’s community arts centre.”

Mr Salter said that all of the shops would be displaying the I Love Eye campaign poster in their windows, as a sign of the traders’ solidarity and community spirit.

“The way I see it, is that it shows all the shops are together and want to get a good community spirit going.”

The business forum was only set up 18 months ago, but in that time it launched the I Love Eye campaign on Valentine’s Day last year, and has organised business fundraising of the Eye Christmas lights.

The message this year is that shoppers can save petrol money by shopping locally, and keep the money in the local economy. Eye is served almost exclusively by independent traders.

Mr Salter is appealing to any other local businesses to attend forum meetings.
