Closure date for WHSmith in Diss confirmed as £76m deal is done

The Diss branch of WHSmith has been confirmed its closing date after it was announced as one of 20 to close across the country this month.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the Mere Street shop would close and, over the weekend, the company, which opened its first store in 1792 in London, confirmed the move.

This was after WHSmith said it had agreed to sell 500 of its shops to Hobbycraft-owner Modella Capital in a deal said to be worth £76 million.

As part of the deal, the fleet of high street stores will be rebranded as TG Jones.

The official date for the Diss shop is April 19.
