Banham dog Digby sorely missed by his distraught family as search is stepped up with volunteer call
The distraught owner of a much-loved missing dog has described the three-month search for him as “mentally destroying”, in an appeal for more volunteers.
Vicki Kerr’s 12-year-old black and white English springer spaniel, Digby, bolted from her Mill Road home in Banham on April 15 after being spooked by a loud noise while in the garden.
Several sightings have been reported since, with a £1,000 reward donated by a member of the public also being offered for information.
“We have had sightings, but a photo would be golden – just so I know for sure it’s him,” said the 47-year-old.
“It’s mentally destroying not knowing. I just want the peace of mind of knowing.
“We had a possible sighting on July 23 in Forncett St Peter, and that has been gnawing away at me, because the dog looked skinny, unkempt and tired.
“It was seen at a distance on the road, and it took us nearly 24 hours to get a team there and put a drone up in the air.”
Digby’s story was told by Clare Balding on the television programme Lost Dogs on Channel 5 last week.
His owner has also made a call for more volunteers to help respond to sightings more quickly, and has urged those in the area around Forncett St Peter to point door cameras at the road, in the hope of spotting Digby.
“I want to thank everyone who has helped our search so far,” said the mum of two.
“I just want to know where he is.”
The Help Find DIGBY Facebook page is helping to widen the search, with 3,200 people having joined since the pet’s disappearance.
