Harleston Sancroft Academy celebrates after Tesco £5,000 golden ticket donation
A town school is celebrating after being selected by Tesco customers to receive a £5,000 donation.
Harleston Sancroft Academy was given the “Golden Grant” as part of Tesco’s Stronger Starts scheme after a customer from the Diss superstore pulled out a golden ticket from a lucky dip and chose the school to have the money.
Rob Connelly, headteacher at the academy, said he was incredibly grateful to Tesco for its Golden Grant.
He said: “This will allows us to support our Year 6 and Year 11 students during this crucial exam period.
“These funds will enable us to provide revision support, hearty breakfasts, healthy snacks, and drinks on SATS and GCSE exam days, ensuring our students are well-nourished and ready to perform at their best.
“Our morning breakfast sessions not only fuel our students but also create a sense of camaraderie and give our staff an opportunity to offer last-minute advice and reassurance.”
More than 100 Tesco stores across the country took part in the Golden Grants event, with £500,000 in total being donated to good causes that help children and young people.
Dale Landamore, store manager at Tesco in Diss, said: “We are thrilled to have participated in the Golden Grants event and it is a fantastic example of how our Stronger Starts scheme can make a real difference in the local community.
“Our customers were so excited to be able to get involved, and the grant recipient truly deserves this support. We are delighted to be able to help them.”
