READER LETTER: ‘Do we need this Co-op?’

I am amazed at the proposals to have a Co-op in Stradbroke and of the proposed site.

We already have a butcher and a baker selling other provisions, and a newly refurbished, up-to-date and very well-stocked, efficient Spar shop, in which the company has spent a considerable amount of money to do this. Now less than three months on Co-op is planning a new store, in a totally unsuitable place where the road already has a bottleneck with school traffic.

I think the idea should be scrapped, there is no justification at all.

Among the shops in Stradbroke we also have well stocked shops in Horham and Laxfield. The extra competition would reduce the profitability of all and may do one of them out of business. I am of the strongest opinion that the application is turned down.
